The Cordillera Septentrional is one of the 4 mountain regions in the Dominican Republic. Located in the island's northern region, it runs 100 miles parallel to the north coast. Known for its tourist attractions and many bird species, the Cordillera Septentrional is the second-most important range. Standing tall with an elevation of 4,097 ft, peak Diego de Ocampo is a great place to hike and is home to many Indigenous communities. The Cordillera Septentrional is also a vital water source crucial for regulating climate. The Cordillera Septentrional is a watershed for many major rivers that provide water for drinking, agriculture, and hydroelectric power. Its height traps moisture in the air creating orographic uplift, air rising over mountains and cooling to form clouds, and precipitation that sustains ecosystems and agriculture. In addition, the Cordillera Septentrional is important in the agricultural aspect of the Dominican Republic. Many rivers originate from the Cordillera Septentrional and flow into the Cibao Valley, an important agricultural place, making it fertile. Without the Cordillera Septentrional Dominican Republic, agriculture would be far behind. The Cordillera Septentrional is a significant mountain range in the Dominican Republic.
